Warcraft Monopoly Board Game, Warcraft Monopoly
A World of Warcraft Monopoly board game could be seen by a lot of old-school WoW veterans as an unholy alliance. A well-known MMORPG such as Warcraft does not routinely lend itself to being turned into a board game, especially one in the Monopoly style.
But pairings like these are not rare. There is already a game out in the market that lets you play a Metal Gear Solid-version of Risk, as well as a different edition based on Halo Wars. Recent sales figures for the aforementioned board games reveal that people are indeed buying and playing these kind of games, so this may have had a significant influence in Blizzard and USAopoly’s decision to team up and create a Monopoly version for WoW.
Playing the World of Warcraft Monopoly board game lets gamers fight to get control over familiar places found in the MMORPG, including the Grizzly Hills, Twilight Highlands, and the Swamp of Sorrows. As expected, the developers have taken care to customize the game pieces of the Warcraft-based Monopoly set, allowing players to use tokens like Murky, the Doomhammer, a Spellbook, or the Corehound Pup, among others. This all depends, of course, on which tokens will make it into the final product.
Instead of high-end graphics and realistic sound effects, players have to extend their imagination using game elements such as tokens and locations that scream ‘Warcraft’ with every roll of the dice. The tokens and locations have been mentioned earlier, but the World of Warcraft Monopoly board game adds more to the atmosphere with small but effective details like placing customized Warcraft-style towns and cities on properties instead of the usual houses and hotels, plus giving players the opportunity to indicate whether they’re playing for the Horde or the Alliance via red or blue dice.
Interested fans of the game will have to sit and wait for the official launch of the WoW board game to see what it’s all about, since the developers have not released any more details than what has been said here. The World of Warcraft Monopoly board game will be selling for around $40 in specialty stores across North America.
